The Heart of Memoir

Santo Stefano di Sessanio, Abruzzo • May 27-June 2, 2012

Join Kathryn Abajian for a week-long summer memoir writing workshop in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, a medieval burgh high in the Abruzzo mountains. Italy, In Other Words fills its workshops with intellectual and aesthetic inspiration, enhanced with great food and good company.

The Heart of Memoir offers writers an opportunity to make meaning of life experience in first-person writing—memoir, travel and food essays. Writers of all experience levels will benefit from the workshop activities in an encouraging environment.

The week includes daily workshops, local excursions, cultural enrichment and lovely accommodations. Look at the photos on our website and endorsements from 2010 and 2011 participants to get a flavor for the lovely setting and personal attention you'll receive.

Kathryn Abajian recently retired as a professor of creative writing for Diablo Valley College. She was awarded the Educator of the Year 2008 by the San Ramon Valley Rotary Club. She is author of First Sight of the Desert, a blend of biography and memoir. She also teaches writing workshops in California and the South of France.

Our cultural enrichment and field trips will be led by Linda Prospero, a Princeton, N.J. writer who has lived in Italy and traveled to Abruzzo many times to visit family and explore the region. Linda's background and fluency in Italian offer participants valuable insight into the local culture.
