Join us for a week of writing and traveling in Italy's jewels, Tuscany and Umbria. The workshop is based in the beautiful, medieval town of Arezzo, home to exquisite Renaissance frescoes, including Piero della Francesca’s masterwork.
After morning classes in Arezzo, explore the rolling countryside with vineyards, olive groves, and cypress trees and visit charming nearby towns, including Cortona, Orvieto, Siena and Assisi. Markets, medieval towns, and Renaissance art provide great material for writers and offer a rare opportunity for writers of memoir, travel, food, art or history. Participants stay in lovely studio apartments, each with private bath and kitchen. The workshop includes instruction, in-class writing exercises and feedback. This is a memorable experience.
Laura Deutsch is a writer, writing coach, editor and teacher based in Mill Valley, California. Her personal essays, features, travel and humor pieces have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, More, San Francisco magazine. Her personal essay on Italy was selected for Best Women's Travel Writing 2011. A graduate of Bryn Mawr and the University of Chicago Law School, she spent a year in Europe and a year in Mexico as a Fulbright Scholar. Laura has led writing workshops and retreats for 15+ years and has taught writing at UC Berkeley, San Francisco State, and Book Passage.
