Join us for The “Write to Explore”  Moravian Writers’ Conference

March 21-23, 2024

Writers Conference Logo

To celebrate the conference's 10-year anniversary, this FREE conference (featuring in-person and live streamed events) will focus on different approaches for thinking about story and story sharing. Some questions our offerings will pose include:

  • What is the value of writing in our society today?
  • Can we use it as a tool to promote social justice and peace?
  • What professions draw on storytelling skills?
  • Can we use story sharing to make connections to our own histories and each other?

Headliner Javier Ávila will perform The Trouble With My Name (a one-man show) on Saturday, March 23, and lead a craft talk earlier that same day—with limited spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additional events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are available to those who preregister (Some events are first-come, first-serve and will close when filled.) More details are in the schedule.

Registration opens February 1, 2024.

Javier Avila

Javier Ávila is professor of English as well as a poet, novelist, and public speaker. Javier writes in both English and Spanish, and his work has earned him numerous awards, including his most recent honor as the recipient of the Cultural Arts Award given by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education. In 2015, he was named Pennsylvania’s Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation. This award inspired Javier to take his classroom to the masses, using the power of poetry and storytelling to deliver a powerful message about unity and inclusion—and so, The Trouble with My Name was born. Trouble has been performed across the country since 2016, and its popularity inspired Javier to write two additional shows, The Perfect Latino and Standing Up, further cementing his reputation as a powerful voice of the American Latino experience.
