USPiM Annual Poetry Conference-Oaxaca

January 3-8, 2016

Join USPiM in Oaxaca next January for a stimulating week of poetry and cultural immersion. Oaxaca de Juarez is a World Heritage Site. Oaxaca is a stunning colonial city and the culinary capital of Mexico.

Poetry Faculty: Major Lewis, Eileen Myles, Kristin Prevallet and Mark Statman (workshops and lectures). Bilingual translation workshops and lecture with Susan Briante.

Special Guests: Charles Alexander (Chax Press)-three discussions and individual manuscript consultations; Pedro Serrano-two lectures on Mexican poetry: contemporary and a historical overview.

Readings: All faculty, guests, Tedi Lopez Mills, Pedro Serrano, Victor Teran (Zapotec language), Efrain Velasco and open mics for participants!

"Somehow this program fosters almost instant camaraderie among writers of diverse backgrounds and balances time for writing, exploring, and workshopping so you can take advantage of all [Mérida] has to offer."

"USPiM not only allowed me to work with one of my favorite poets for a week, it offered me a community in which I, and my non-poet husband, immediately felt welcome—something that travelers don’t always have. "

"US Poets in Mexico was amazing. Not only were the poetry workshop leaders and speakers outstanding and accessible, the participants were dedicated poets—many of them published writers and MFA candidates—open to new ideas and cultural exchange. The spirit of the workshop was collaborative, supportive, and stimulating."

Monte Alban ($20) and The Road to Tlacolula Market ($30).
