Cora Daniels will teach an intimate group the skills to become publishable magazine writers. Through constructive critique and editing you will hone your writing skills and develop your voice. The program will include roundtable discussions, daily lectures on the art of compelling story telling, and practical assignments to help you develop story ideas, pitch ideas to editors, and develop your reporting skills. Participants will be required to work on one publishable long piece and will get career advice and evaluation of their skills. Application deadline 3/17/08.
The Setting Participants stay at a beach-side cottage on Fire Island, a barrier island off the coast of Long Island, NY, about an hour from New York City. This unique, peaceful beach community, where no cars are allowed during summer, is ideal for writing and fostering creativity.
The Teacher Cora Daniels’ writing career spans newspapers, magazines, and books. A former staff writer at Fortune Magazine and editor of Working Mother, her work has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, O: The Oprah Magazine, and USA Today. She is author of two critically acclaimed books and currently has contributing writer/editor positions at Essence Magazine, Fast Company, and Men’s Fitness Magazine, where her work can be seen regularly.
