Manhattanville College Hosts Annual Writers' Week June 23-27, 2008
Writers from across the country gather at Manhattanville College each summer for the school's annual week-long writing conference. Manhattanville, which offers a 32-credit Master of Arts in Writing degree program, publishes the award-winning literary magazine Inkwell, and hosts a lively series of workshops and other literary events throughout the year, is home to a respected literary community.
During Writer's Week, participants spend the mornings in workshops with well-known, published authors, focusing on fiction, short fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, children's/young adult literature, and the art of the profile. The 2008 "25th Anniversary" faculty includes Terese Svoboda (fiction), Alice Elliott Dark (fiction), Patricia Lee Gauch (young readers), Major Jackson (poetry), Rachel Cohen (creative nonfiction) and Jim Weikart (mystery). The program includes sessions with editors and agents, faculty readings, a special reading by Paul Rieckhoff ("Chasing Ghosts") and a special keynote address by Nan Talese.
Overnight accommodations on Manhattanville's beautiful 100-acre campus are available. The program can be taken for credit toward a master's degree or on a non-credit basis. Applicants are asked to submit a 10-page writing sample along with an application and payment by June 2.
Set in Westchester County, New York, our campus offers the spaciousness and leisurely pace of a suburban location along with the resources of New York City, which is just 30 minutes away.
