ZigBone Farm's winter and summer writing retreats offer a time-tested combination of precious quiet to write, creative instruction, fellowship of other writers, and great food and drink to help you do your best writing. The venue is a treat in itself: artistic, naturally built, luxurious, and climate-friendly -- nestled in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains, a place that time forgot with its rolling hills and small farms. in addition to our Tuscan-like retreat buildings, ZigBone Farm grows produce for guests and maintains a flock of sheep and goats.

What to Expect at a ZigBone Writing Retreat
Guests will arrive in the afternoon in time for a welcome happy hour of mulled wine and hot cocoa in the winter, cool summer libations at the July retreat. Dinner that night will be all about getting to know each other warm-up writing prompts, and sharing a bit about ourselves over a meal of artisan pizza made in our wood-fired oven with ZigBone Farm-grown toppings.

Every day will offer a mix of instruction, free writing time, sensory writing exercises, tools to develop your practice, evening readings, a chance to get to know your fellow writers better -- and, of course, delicious, local food and drink. Whenever you wish, you can walk the farm's 100 acres to take in the bucolic beauty that is ZigBone Farm, and to get to know our sheep, goats, and barn cats.

Our final breakfast will offer time to say goodby and share emails. Our writing retreats are all about space to create and building your practice and community.
